Response to Lloyd LuellenHello Lloyd,

I agree with you that laying off an employee is not an easy task and should never be taken lightly. I also agree with you that a manager should focus on the employee’s performance while making the decision to lay off employees. I appreciate the fact that you acknowledge that being in the top 10% on the performance evaluation makes Mary a better performing employee than Alice. As such, I support your choice of removing Alice from her duties. I also appreciate that you acknowledge the need to monitor Mary’s attitude and actions closely.

Hello Kathryn,

Your post from the Course Skill Notes for week 10 defined operationalization as the central idea or element that research will focus on, which can be examined and quantified with precision. I agree that operationalization is often the first stage in developing a study technique, and it is the process of giving a numerical value to intangible ideas (Bhandari, 2022). Also, in your post, you defined variables as an item that may be assigned several values or interpretations. Some examples are distance and time, where distances may be measured in millimeters, inches, feet, meters, miles, or kilometers. I agree that there are dependent and independent variables where the independent variables determine how additional factors are compared to the reported value, while the dependent variable depends on the value specified for the independent variable (Bhandari, 2022). Besides, your post stated that the Course Skill Notes define individuals as study participants. Your post defines sampling as the procedure of choosing the individuals to be included in the study. For your suggested research topic for this course, you aim to investigate whether there is a link between active and passive screen time and the influence you may have on academic progress. This independent variable would be the quantity of active and passive screen time. The dependent variable would be academic scores. The participants for this research will be students with access to gadgets that offer both active and idle screen time.

I agree that the four main data types are nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio. Examples of nominal data discussed in your post are yes and no questions and names that can be listed. Ordinal data examples include names that can be ranked in order and any measuring questions like agree or disagrees. Interval data examples are centigrade temperatures, and the calendar since this type of data does not contain a true zero point. An example of ratio data is age, weight, and height. According to your post, method is the instrument in the study, which is the technique through which data is collected. The data collection methods discussed in your report are surveys and questionnaires. An example of a scale discussed in our class notes mentioned in your post is Faces Scale which collects data by eliciting an individual’s feelings, especially how they feel physically. I agree that validity indicates how sound your research is, in other words, how trustworthy it is and how much truth it contains. The types of validity discussed in your post are internal and external validity. I agree that internal validity is when a researcher tries to stop the results of a study from being affected by the flaws within the study by controlling major variables or by using standard equipment that has already been tested. External validity is the extent to which you can generalize your findings to a larger group or other contexts, and the results can be applied to contexts different from the one that the research was conducted within
