Riley B. King
Riley B. King who is famously known as B.B. King was born on September 16th 1925. He was born in Mississippi Delta from a humble background as his parents were sharecropping. At the tender age of just five years, his parents divorced and moved with his mother to downtown Mississippi. Life became hard for them by the time King was turning seven he was doing house chores mostly done by adults. At the age of 9, another tragedy struck, his mother died and he thus had to go live with his father (Academy of Achievement). His mother had been his source of inspiration and with her gone she felt broken. In search for another source of inspiration, King turned to church, Church of God in Church where he got solace. It is while attending the church that he begun being inspired to do music. He had seen the Church’s praise and worship team and he though music would be something he would do.
King had the desire to start creating gospel music and his preacher noted. At age 12, the preacher begun teaching him how to play a guitar that he had acquired from his employer. He would sing in spiritual groups of his church including Elkhorn Singers and the Saint John’s Gospel Singers (Academy of Achievement). He began singing in street corners while playing guitar in a bid to raise money that would help him survive. This humble beginning marked an important phase in life as it became a stepping-stone to which he would begin his successful music career. King has had such a huge impact in the music industry especially in the blues genre. The music that he made gained both acceptance and recognition in major parts of the world and several other singers accredited King’s music as being part of their inspiration including Frank Sinatra and Nat Cole.
His music is of his own class. His trademark was trilling the vibrato that he had developed. He had been able to develop this piece while duplicating the sound of a steel slide. Soon, doors begun opening for King. With the help of Sonny Boy William, he began singing in radio commercials and he was also a disc jockey. He would later on play in small club and by the mid-1960s he was playing in large events. His B.B king originated from a name he had given himself from singing blues “the blues boy from Beale Street” (Dunchin, pg 34). King is the world’s most prominence blue guitarist. He was one blue musician who was able to incorporate other genres of music to his style. He fused pop, waltz, funk, pop and soul to his blues. In one interview that B.B King did, he stated that he was Afraid of doing Blues because he thought people would look down on it especially African Americans as this was not the genre that they were used to.
King’s hard work was unmatched. He had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes but had vowed that the diabetes would not slow his music career down and he did continue with his world tours and shows. Before his death there were several shows that had still been lined. King being successful in his music career his personal life was full of misfortunes as he lost loved ones, fellow close musicians, lovers and aquittance. King got married twice in his life but in both instances the married failed. The failures to thee marriage has at some point been accredited to King’s 250 performances in a year (Richardon, pg. 282-307. These personal tragic loses however did not make him weak but pointed out some of these moments motivated him to writing music. He fathered 15 children during his career and while alive he never disputed they were his children but was supportive enough to even pay for their school.
One of his most notable works that he did was “The Thrill is Gone”. The song was recorded in June 1969 for his album “Completely Well”. The song was originally written by Rick Darnell and Roy Hawkins but was popularized by King’s interpretation. The song has been said to so electrifying and amazingly intense. Although King was known as a well-adjusted person, for this song it was different, he conveyed a sense of jealousy and paranoia. The song was about moving on from a relationship that had ended on a bad note. King had recorded this song so many times but he was not satisfied with the results not until his producer Bill Szymczyk suggested that he could add strings. This addition made the song better and it was this recording that gave king first million-selling record (Herzhaft, pg, 454).
The song became a hit immediately after its release in December 1969. It ranked number three in the R&B chart and in the Billboard Top 100 it was at number 15. “Thrill is Gone” was said to be one of King’s signature songs. His recording earned him a Grammy Award for the category Best Male R&B Vocal Performance in the year 1970 and in 1998 Grammy Hall of Fame Award. The song was also listed by Rolling stone as one of the most memorable songs.
In conclusion, B.B King clearly left a huge impact on blues that is being felt even five years after his death. By the time of his death he had 75 albums. His achievement was so impeccable that he received 18 Grammy Awards, and Presidential Medal of Freedom. King Died in2015 at the age of 89 a man proud of the man he had become. He was just a boy from Beale Street and had dared to dream becoming the greatest R&B musician.

Rhetoric Analysis
The article looks at the impeachment of President Trump. Since election of President Trump, Democrats have been on his case and recently, he was accused of collaboration with Russia’s president in reference to 2016 presidential campaign. The bill passed in the lower house and it was up to the Senate to decide the fate of President Trump. The article utilizes various rhetorical strategies including ethos, logos and has also utilized other persuasive methods to help the reader understand the nature of politics currently going on in the United States. In this essay we will look at the various persuasive strategy utilized by the author to pass across his message.
When you read the article, the first thing that you notice is the diction used. The author is so selective of the words that he uses. Examples are aberration, political war, impeachment, partisan, justice clearly gives a reader that the piece they are reading is on an important matter. The author paints a picture of the politics on impeachment going on both from the Republican and the Democratic aspect. His choice of words portrays an ugly scene in the American politics for example when he states “Donald Trump has claimed has claimed a Pyrrhic victory, but there is no doubt about the loser: the country he leads and has helped divide” (Bryant) the choc of words shows that even though President trump may have won, there is a far much more consequence division of the citizens that he leads which is a greater loss.
The author uses ethos as he appeals to the emotions of the readers. In describing the one Republican Senator who refused to vote Mittt Romney, he states that the senator had a tearful speech The author states that “Mitt Romney’s tearful speech sounded also like a death cry of moderate Republicanism” (Bryant) he brings the side of a republican who does not conform to partisan politics and induces emotion through description of his speech. He also relates president Trump impeach to O.J Simpson’s trial. H talks of the dirt cop in O.J Simpson trial Mark Fuhrman in Trumps case includes “dirty democrats” pushing for his impeachment including California prosecutor Adam Schiff. According to the author he equates O.J Simpson to President Trump thus invoking emotions as the case invoked a lot of emotions especially on matters of justice.
The author also utilizes logos in making his article persuasive. He presents both sides of the arguments on why he thinks the U.S politics is beyond repair. The author points out how the Republicans are hell bent on protecting the President that they had to block out witnesses from testifying including National Security Advisor John Bolton in what is supposed to be a trial. According to the author he wants a reader to think the impact of how blocking a witness may have in a trial and the judgement. He goes ahead to state this action may be viewed by historians as jurors trying to block justice. He also points out Democrats for their lack of agility to fight for witnesses to be presented in the trial. The author wants to paint a picture that makes it seem the Democrat were not really willing to fight for the justice they wanted.
In conclusion, the author is able to employ various rhetorical strategies that make the article persuasive. The word choice his uses, ability to appeal to both emotion and logic enables a reader to get an understanding on the rot going on in U.S politics especially when it comes to partisan politics. Although partisan politics has been in the United States for a very long time, it is now that the politicians are much more divided on the racial lines even when it comes to serious matters that go far above parties.

Revenge (Hamlet, Laertes and Fortinbras) in Shakespeare’s, Hamlet
The focus of this paper is to provide an analysis of Shakespeare’s, Hamlet. The paper concentrates on the characters who take revenge due to the social ills they experience. The characters in question are Hamlet, Laertes and Fortinbras. The paper is organized according to their justification, implementation and success in their plan.
Hamlet
Hamlet is categorized as one of Shakespeare’s tragic plays. The main character is Hamlet the prince and heir to Denmark’s throne. Hamlet is expected to have a successful life due to his destiny as a future prince of Denmark. This however, is not the case in that the death of his father marks the beginning of his suffering and misery. Hamlet is hurt the most by his mother who immediately marries his uncle the antagonist. Hamlet resorts to revenge so that he can dethrone his uncle Claudius and take his rightful place as the king of Denmark. This act of betrayal justifies his actions for revenge against his mother and uncle who are responsible for the death of his father (Booker and Thomas, p. 244).
Hamlet forms a plan on how to fulfill his revenge by implementing an attack against his enemies. His meeting with the ghost of his late father reveals to him that Claudius is responsible for the murder. “Though this be madness, yet there is method in t”. Hamlet forms a strategy by disguising himself as a mad and delusional person. He then gets access to the king where he manages to spy on the movements of Claudius. He does this by outsmarting the king’s guards so as to get complete access to the king.
“There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so”
Hamlet succeeds in his quest in that he murders Rosencrantz and Guildenstern (the king’s guards). He also murders Claudius and Leartus therefore avenging the death of his father. All this comes at a cost in that hamlet loses his life by the hand of Leartus who inflicts a wound on him. His success is not significant in that he becomes a victim of the same revenge (Shakespeare and Furness, p. 209).
Laertes
Leartus is the son of Polonius and the brother to Ophelia. Known for his stubborn nature, Leartus uses his vulnerable sister to turn against Hamlet. His character is distinguished due to his background and personal achievements. His character does not have significance until he witnesses the death of his father. Leartus’ father Polonius lost his life because he was caught up in the feud between hamlet and Claudius. He blames Hamlet for his father’s death and makes revenge his ultimate objective. He used his sister to get closes to hamlet so that he could avenge his father’s death.
Leartus implements his plan through the use of his sister. His sister Ophelia is Hamlets long time love and suitor. He uses his influence over her and makes her choose between love and family “A little more than kin, and less than kind” .Ophelia is inclined to obey the wishes of her brother due to her position as a woman. She succumbs to his manipulation and betrays Hamlet on several occasions.
He succeeds in the implementation of his plan. Despite his success, he loses his life to the same sword that he inflicts on Hamlet. Leartus and Hamlet manage to harm each other as result of their sadness. Leartus manages to end hamlets life which is his soul intention. This leads to his personal downfall due his death at the end of the scene (Grosz and Wendler, p. 321).
Fortinbras
Fortinbras plays the prince of Norway. He faces the usual problems of a prince in that he loses his father in battle. His people suffer the loose of his father due to the domination of their land by Hamlets father “When sorrows come, they come not single spies, but in battalions” .This becomes motivation for his revenge making him form a quest to avenge his father’s death. It is safe to say that Fortinbras is less motivated due to the fact that his father died in a fair battle compared to his peers. His character is thus similar to that of Hamlet making him subject to the social injustice in the community.
Fortinbras however chooses to handle his situation in a different way. He wishes to avenge the death of his father but does not display aggressiveness. His implementation is thus different in that he sits back while Hamlet, Claudius and Leartus. Hamlet and Leartus are both stubborn and irrational due to their character. This makes them more ambitious in their quest to receive justice. Fortinbras as a result takes a back step in his revenge making him have a different fate from the two.
Fortinbras does not play a vital role in the acts of vengeance making him less vulnerable to the dangers of the society. He emerges as the overall winner in that he takes control of all the lands that belong to both countries. Fortinbras is thus successful in his plan to get back the land that that his father lost (Dunn, Dunn, and Shakespeare, p. 213).
In conclusion, the need to revenge instills anger in an individual. These thoughts are brought about by an injustice by an antagonist character. Hamlet, Leartus and Fortinbras are all victims of misfortunes that lead to their father’s death. Both Hamlet and Leartus lose their lives due to the hatred that they have for each other. Fortinbras on the other hand emerges the overall winner due to the fulfillment of his quest.
