Imperialism, Progressivism, and World War I

You must argue how the period from 1900 to around 1930 was more detrimental than beneficial.

Do not argue that the period was both beneficial and detrimental (which, of course, it was).

Make sure you argue the side assigned to you.

Be sure to argue HOW the period was either beneficial or detrimental.

What one major issue or theme made the period either beneficial or detrimental, and for whom was it beneficial or detrimental, as well as how was it beneficial or detrimental to the nation as a whole.

In order to make your argument, you MUST use one primary source (the documents) each from Chapters 18-20 in Voices of Freedom and two examples from the lectures (at least five examples in total).

Answer the 2nd Critical Thinking question at the end of Chapter 6: Write a 1000-1250 word essay addressing each of the questions. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. There should be at least six sections, one for each question. Separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Support your ideas with at least four (4) citations in your essay. Make sure to reference the citations using the APA writing style for the essay. The cover page and reference page do not count towards the minimum word amount. Review the rubric criteria for this assignment.

Critical thinking question =

One day, Linda arrives at work on the behavioral care unit. She is informed that the staffing office has requested that a nurse from the psychiatric unit report to the intensive care unit (ICU). They need help in caring for an agitated car accident victim with a history of schizophrenia.     Linda goes to the ICU and joins a nurse named Corey in providing care for the patient. Eventually, the patient is stabilized and goes to sleep, and Corey leaves the unit for a break. Because Linda is unfamiliar with the telemetry equipment, she fails to recognize that the patient is having an arrhythmia, and the patient experiences a cardiopulmonary arrest. Although he is successfully resuscitated, he suffers permanent brain damage.

Right to practice section must answer:

a. Can Linda legally practice in this situation? (That is, does her RN license permit her to practice in the intensive care unit?)

Ability to practice section must answer:

b. Does the ability to practice legally in an area differ from the ability to practice competently in that area?

Assignment Refusal section must answer:

c. Did Linda have any legal or ethical grounds to refuse the assignment to the intensive care unit?

Unprepared for Practice section must answer:

d. What are the risks in accepting an assignment in an area of specialty in which you are professionally unprepared to practice?

Retaliation Risks section must answer:

e. Would there have been any way for Linda to minimize the risk of retaliation by the employer had she refused the assignment?

Hospital Negligence section must answer:

f. If Linda is negligent, is the hospital liable for any harm to the patient caused by her?

Nursing Theories of Practice

Nursing Theories of Practice

Theories of Practice

What is a theory?

Theory can be defined as “one or more relatively concrete and specific concepts that are derived from a conceptual model, the propositions that narrowly describe those concepts, and the propositions that state relatively concrete and specific relations between two or more concepts” (Butts & Rich, 2018, p. 101).

Theory is a hypothesis tested and measured to explain, predict, describe, and prescribe relationships between concepts and is developed through quantitative research.

The difference between a model and a theory is the amount of proof that exists in demonstrating the outcomes they predict. Both models and theories show relationships between concepts.

Directions

In this assignment, you will locate a grand and middle-range nursing theory and examine the utility of your chosen theories for guiding research and practice.

You will locate one grand nursing theory and one middle-range nursing theory applied in a research study. You will examine how each theory was applied within the research study and then analyze the utility of grand and middle-range nursing theories to advance the discipline of nursing and its impact upon your advanced nursing practice.
