Introduction

How organizations transition from recruiting a large pool of qualified applicants to selecting the best applicant for the position is a complex process that changes over time.

Employment recruitment and selection decisions are significant for managers and organizations. Poor decisions can result in a tremendous loss for the company. Employee performance is critical to organizational effectiveness because an organization will only be as productive as its workers.

Recruiting methods have evolved significantly in the last five years, and the use of technology in the advertising process is critical for employers to have a competitive edge. In this assessment, you will research and develop a PowerPoint presentation recommending an internet recruiting strategy.

Overview

For this assessment, assume you are a member of a recruiting department for a retail organization. You have been asked to research internet recruiting strategies and best practices of other successful organizations to create a strategy for your own organization.

Planning

The time it takes to complete an assessment can vary greatly. But it often takes longer than we think to explore the scope of a task, research it, write a draft, and then come back and revise it. Consider the following as rough guideposts for setting aside the time you need to do your work. You will want to adjust these as you learn more about your own pace and working style.

  • Research and reading: 4 hours.
  • Interactive activities: 30 minutes.
  • Writing: 6 hours.
  • Revising: 2 hours.

Instructions

Create a PowerPoint presentation with key bullet points and a paragraph in the Notes sections to address each of the following:

  • Identify two retail employers and links to their online job application portals, then:
    • Articulate the user-friendliness of the application process for the selected employer sites.
    • Compare the quality of the job information for each employer’s site from an applicant’s and an employer’s point of view.
  • Select two general job search websites (for example, CareerBuilder, Indeed, SimplyHired, LinkedIn, Monster, et cetera) and:
    • Articulate the ease of use of the general job search sites from both an applicant’s and an employer’s perspective.
  • Select two social media websites (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, et cetera) and:
    • Articulate, from an employer’s perspective, the benefits of social media sites to recruit highly qualified candidates.
  • Based on the information you found:
    • Articulate a recruiting strategy for a retail organization that includes justifications for the selected strategies.
      • Articulate the internet recruiting strategy you will suggest for your retail organization and justify your selections. Will your company have a jobs page linked to the website? Will you also use sites, such as LinkedIn or Indeed, to attract additional applicants? Will you use social media sites?
  • Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations of members of the human resources profession.
    • Be sure you communicate in a scholarly, professional manner that addresses the intended audience and is free of grammatical and mechanical errors.

Submission Requirements

Your presentation should meet the following requirements:

  • Written communication: Written communication is thoughtful and free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • APA formatting: References and citations should be formatted according to current APA style and format. See Evidence and APA.
  • Length of assessment: 10–12 PowerPoint slides with notes.
  • Communication: Understand the audience and communicate professionally.

Refer to the assessment scoring guide to ensure that you meet all criteria. To earn full points for each criterion, be sure to note the details on what constitutes distinguished performance.
