Personal Leadership Vision Statement

Personal Leadership Vision Statement
(Note: Numbered instructions refer to rubric numbers below).
In a formal paper:
1. Describe your vision for leading effectively in a future health care
environment as a Master’s prepared nurse. A vision is a compelling
image of an achievable future. Your vision should be bold, innovative,
inventive, and unconstrained by previous ideas. Think of a vision as a
“big audacious” goal for your future career.
2. Thoughtfully reflects upon your personal leadership effectiveness in
current work setting. Based on your Leadership Assessments talk
about your current leadership style and approach to leadership in your
work setting. Be sure to define your leadership style, and talk about
how that style correlates to your leadership, followership, and
influence assessment, and cite your source(s).
Evaluate your strengths as a leader. Evaluate your opportunities for
further leadership growth and development.
3. Describe at least four individual level competencies (to earn maximum
points) required for effective leadership to achieve your vision and
reflect upon a personal action plan to develop the described
competencies. A personal action plan will have specific strategies that
will help you develop a specific leadership competency. Remember
there are literally thousands of leadership competencies and the ones
identified by the leadership assessment tools are just examples – so
please expand beyond the Grossman and Vilaga identified
competencies when identifying your four competencies for
development. Examine the new National Academies report and the
new AACN Master’s Essentials to get a broader perspective on a variety
of competencies required for the future.
4. Support your views with at least four references. Include at least two
references from peer-reviewed literature.
