TPS Discussion

TPS Discussion

A news article in this week’s module, Trump Administration Says that Nearly 200,000 Salvadorans Must Leave, discusses Temporary Protected Status, or TPS. The current administration has decided not to renew this discretionary benefit for thousands of citizens of El Salvador, who have been residing and working in the United States legally under TPS since 2001. Discuss this extreme form of border for this week’s discussion. Does it ultimately benefit the United States to offer a more permanent resident status to aliens who have resided here so long? Or is this an important example of the executive branch correcting previous administrations’ overuse of lax bordering policy? Do you need more information to take a position? If so, what statistics would you want? See link below: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/08/us/salvadorans-tps-end.html
