Introduction

Cultural and social interactions are important integration aspects in our communities whereby individuals share their ideas and other socio-cultural sentiments, providing a new perspective to the way individuals approach life and other phenomenon in their daily activities. These social interactions gradually provide explanations and in long run an addiction to various activities that rejuvenate individuals in times when they are tired, have personal problems and for entertainment purposes. They include sporting activities, social media, business interactions, storytelling and other cultural aspects that individuals exchange and share such as language which have been greatly boosted by innovations in science and technology, more so in communication sector. Personally, I have much interest in football which to me acts the major entertainment hobby and a proud fan of a “giant” team in Spain, Real Madrid, since my childhood days. Soccer or football as it is commonly referred is a channel of global interaction as the widely watched and participated sporting activity in the world; discussions, contributions and sharing of ideas both physically and through other media channels. As a fan, there are various aspects that I consider motivating factors that strengthen my support for Real Madrid with organization, team performance, club’s mission and vision and the general love for football taking preference.

As a young child I developed undying interest in the field of soccer, enjoying the tantalizing field/ground moves by legendary stars such as Pele and Ronaldinho Gaucho who up to this moment to me are still the great footballers of all time. This undying interest has grown with time motivating me to be a member of the local soccer team and for the purposes of professionalism I support Real Madrid where I draw much inspiration from the past and the present players and their technical approach to different league and international clubs’ matches. This has been facilitated by innovations in science and technology whereby I can watch their matches at comfort of my room and in case I miss any match or discussions on matters concerning the team, I can conveniently search the content online and be briefed.

Club’s organization is simply the best and functional in that the corporate organization; shared values and assumption by the management and other stakeholders are clearly defined and transparent leadership structure, which acts as the ground for its fan base and continuity of the club. As a fan, I feel contented following all their activities and investment ventures greatly motivated by the need to keep the players comfortable and their welfare catered for as they play for the club and other stakeholders through corporate social responsibility initiatives by the club in their home ground and areas with significant fan base. In addition, club’s organization in terms of team management and nurturing talents is exceptional as the club has four teams where the talent is nurtured and selection of the players to represent the club in competitive matches is done.

Club’s performance as a team and in other ventures has strengthened my loyalty as the club with various caps in history and has been successful in other investment ventures that support the welfare of the players and management. The team has had good performances since is foundation both in the local and international inter-club competitions; earning a significant fan base in majority of countries globally and setting international standards in the football arena.

The club’s mission and vision are clearly outlined and adhered to by various management officials in the club which to me as a fan, streamlines the growth and development of soccer not only in Spain but also globally. This has gradually developed the love of football as a game to many footballers and entertainment to my fellow fans and followers of this great team. With a record of 32 La Liga titles, 18 Copas del Rey titles, 9 European cups/ Champions league titles and other local caps; the club is a major force both in Spanish and European football, making it a club worth supporting due to its tremendous growth and development of soccer as a sport.

Conclusion

Real Madrid has proved to be the favorite club for the people who value and adore football globally with much emphasis pegged on the leadership and governance along its various sections, performance and consistency. There is much to be desired in all of the club’s teams; technical ground skills, the mode of organization as a team and club, management and the team spirit especially in competitive matches and the pride that comes with being associated with the club as a primary stakeholder or as a fan.

Issues Surrounding Covid-19 Vaccines Refusal

For this particular assignment, I have decided to research the factors surrounding the slow uptake of approved covid-19 vaccines, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom regions. I have chosen this topic because I have heard people say all sorts of things about the vaccine and my worry is the misinformation that surrounds the vaccines. I feel that the reason most eligible people are reluctant to get the approved covid-19 jabs is because they are not well informed about the facts making them afraid of getting the vaccine. Additionally, on social media, people have resulted to spreading unfounded rumors about the vaccine which is impacting negatively on the uptake of vaccines.

The New York Times, article titled “Bidden is Right: Vaccine Refusal ‘Has Cost All of Us’ is an opinion piece that follows the move by President Bidden to require all health care workers, federal contractors and executive branch employees to get vaccinated. The President ordered more strict vaccine rules saying that the government has been patient but the patience is wearing thin. The article maintains that the refusal of a section of the American population has refused to take up the vaccine and this move has repercussions for the entire society. The article opines that vaccine resistors speak on violation of freedoms but they forget that nobody lives in a bubble and their decisions not to take the vaccine infringes on the people’s freedom to move around, visit family and friends, and staying alive. Thus far, about two-thirds of the American workforce has done their part in curtailing the effects of the even more contagious Delta variant that continues to claim the lives of 1,500 people in the United States (Thacker, 5). The article also stresses that the tens of millions of people that have not been vaccinated are the reason the deadly virus will keep spreading thus people at risk of infection.

Further, BBC’s titled, “Why Some People Don’t Want a Covid-19 Vaccine” explores how social media is causing more harm than good when it comes to spreading news about the vaccine. The United Kingdom-based article notes that a significant number of people are hesitant to get the vaccine with the International Monetary Fund estimating that 10-20% of the UK population is unvaccinated (Robson, 3). The text noted that the topic has transformed into a culture war with online commentators deeming the vaccine resistors as selfish and ignorant. According to psychologists factors including convenience, confidence, complacency, collective responsibility and calculation are the main factors influencing the people’s decision to take the vaccine.

As regards the relationship between the two articles, they share a lot in common. Both articles are similar in the sense that they address the underlying issues that prevent eligible people from getting the vaccines. They dissect the misconceptions that are rife about the vaccines in the hope of convincing people to go get vaccinated. The two articles support each other and do not contradict each other in any way. Both articles opine that vaccines were not only approved in time but are also safe and highly effective against covid-19 and particularly the most contagious Delta variant. They also agree on the fact that vaccines are not only saving lives but are our last hope if we want to fully re-open the economy. The BBC article also expounds on an issue mentioned in the New York Times article; the high transmissibility of the Delta variant.

When it comes to the topic of the uptake of covid-19 vaccines, one question comes to mind. The research question I would propose in line with this topic has to do with free will. Where do we draw the line about what laws give people limited choices about taking vaccines? However much vaccines are our only hope in saving lives, there is a need to leave people with an option to decide if they want to get the jab or not. Taking the order by President bidden to require all health care workers and executive employees to get the vaccine, the move might be crucial in saving lives, but is it morally right? Doing so infringes on their rights and people must be given the free will to decide if and when they want to take the vaccine.

Cultural and Ethnic Studies

The book Bad Blood by James Jones is an excellent book detailing the most important issues concerning Tuskegee study’s protocol. The book details several quotes that have been put forwards by many personalities who have been included in the story. These personalities have either directly or indirectly contributed to these quotes. These quotes have been quite informative and educative concerning the baseline target that the author wanted to bring forward. This has acted great in ensuring that the book becomes one of the most excellent in the light of Tuskegee Study protocol. The book greatly dwells in the field of medicine and public health (Jones, 37). It entails a lot of humanity issues alongside several questionable issues concerning human health. This is evident where human beings were willingly left to continue sustaining their diseases without treating them. This was in a bid to do research concerning untreated syphilis (Jones, 17).

It is of critical significance to note that some of the conditions detailed in the book touching on health issues are more of human pride. This follows that the treatment for the disease was not lacking, only that the doctors were proudly conducting their research. This was a bit controversial since those men could really affect other people with whom they had sexual intimacy. This follows that such diseases could spread easily. In addition, such diseases were really horrible. In the experiment, the other issues of critical importance to note is the fact that in the initial test pool, all the participants had treatment for syphilis (Jones, 31). Therefore, although the major focus was to research on untreated syphilis, the initial test only worked to stop further treatment of the same disease.

In this class, we have studied several issues touching on public health and medicine. Some of these include the emergent diseases as well as those diseases that have been there or a very long time. The studies have focused on the origin, spread, prevention and treatment of such diseases. The book, Bad Blood by James Jones relate a lot to the things we have learned in class. For instance, the part touching on the origin and spread of HIV/AIDS is clearly detailed in this book. The book points out they ways in which the dreaded disease known as HIV AIDS came about in a very systematic manner. In addition, it succinctly explains how the disease spread throughout the world. Moreover, the book sheds more light on the relationship between the disease and other sexually transmitted infections like syphilis. This forms the core of some of the topics we have dealt with in other classes in this institution.

This book can be termed seminal in the field of research ethics. This follows that the book is quite educative as well as informative with regards to ethical issues. It clearly depicts the issue of racist history in the medical research (Jones, 23). This may be of critical importance to researchers who would wish to know more concerning the nature of diseases in the earlier days with regards to racism. In addition, this book is quite good when it comes to the courses dealing on pharmacy law and ethics. However, it is quite prudent to note that the book has helped me learn a lot concerning the issue of health and ethics compared to what I initially knew about. In addition, I have come to understand how the concept of racism acted to shape up the field of medical research in earlier days (Jones, 24). The type of exploitation depicted in the book Bad Blood by James Jones is that of medical exploitation. This involves the inclusion of human beings in medical research, thus posing major risks to their health. This follows the poor medical health care in which such people are subjected as depicted in the book.
