Background LGE is one of the leading global companies in the industry. It is composed of five divisions: air conditioning, business solutions, home appliances, home entertainment, and mobile communication. LGE has 114 subsidiaries worldwide and employs around 82,000 people. LGE is a South Korean company and as such has some unique characteristics derived from the South Korean culture and economic structure.
Directions In this assignment, you will read several peer-reviewed articles.
- First, read three peer-reviewed articles related to the South Korean economy, chaebols, and culture.
- Then, search for at least one peer-reviewed article related to the strategic alliances.
- Next, read at least one article on human resource strategies for Multinational Corporations (MNCs).
- In addition, read a few articles related to the local and global operations of LGE.
Then, respond to the following:
- Explain the organization and purpose of chaebols.
- Identify the positive and negative characteristics of chaebols for both local and global economy. Also, explain the role they play in the South Korean economy.
- Identify the characteristics of LGE’s human resources strategy.
- Identify how this HR strategy is helping the company to deal with the diversity.
- LGE has established a number of strategic alliances with partners from all over the world. Select one of these alliances and analyze and evaluate its outcome.
Write a six-to-eight-page paper in Word format. Utilize at least five to six scholarly sources in your research. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
Customer Service and Organizational Culture
An organization’s service culture is made up of many facets, each of which affects the customer and helps determine the success or failure of customer service initiatives.
Log on to the Internet and research the mission statements of the following five organizations:
- U.S. Department of Education
- USAA Educational Foundation
- Enterprise Rent-a-Car
- Starbucks Coffee
- Florida Hospital.
Locate the information by going to available search engines and typing in the name of the organization, then searching its site for “mission statement.”As you view each organizational mission statement, answer the following questions:
- Are their shared values and beliefs evident in the different mission statements? If so, what are they?
- As a customer/client, do you feel that the organization values you? Why or why not?
- Does the focus of each mission statement seem to differ between types of organizations (e.g., government, nonprofit, not-for-profit, and for profit)? Why or why not?
- If you were writing each mission statement, what would you add or delete?

Consumer Buying Decisions
Many businesses would like to get inside the minds of their customers to know what they are thinking. This can be accomplished through understanding the factors that influence consumer buying behavior. Follow these three steps to complete this Discussion topic:
Step 1: Go to the Strategic Business Insights® (©2009-2014) website and take the VALS® Survey by copying and pasting this URL into your Web browser: http://www.strategicbusinessinsights.com/vals/presurvey.shtml This survey determines a person’s consumer preferences, attitudes, etc.
To Receive an Accurate VALS Type:
By design, the questions are for use by people whose first language is American English. If you are not a citizen of the United States or Canada, residency should be for enough time to know the culture and its idioms. If you do not meet these conditions, your VALS type will not be valid.
Step 2: Choose a car manufacturing company from the list and visit the company’s website to conduct an information search and evaluate the alternatives of the complete product offering.
Step 3: Using research from Chapter 6 in your textbook, write your response to the following questions pertaining to consumer decision making:
- Based on the information you gathered and alternatives available on the company website you explored, which vehicle offering seems to be the most relevant to your needs? Explain why?
- Using the results of the VALS survey, describe the accuracy of results and relate them to your vehicle choice.
- Select three (3) of the factors discussed in Chapter 6 (Exhibit 6.3) that affect consumer buying behavior and explain why they would impact your decision to buy the vehicle most relevant to your needs.
To obtain full credit for this Assignment, you must answer the available topic as thoroughly as possible. Your answer should be thoughtful and composed using complete sentences. Please follow the Discussion guidelines as provided in your Syllabus.
