Blood Pressure Assignment

Blood Pressure Assignment

  1. Define:
    1. cardiac output:
    2. stroke volume:
    3. end systolic volume:
    4. end diastolic volume:
    5. resistance:
    6. venous return:
    7. blood pressure:
    8. cardioacceleratory center:
    9. cardioinhibitory center:
    10. parasympathetic nervous system
    11. sympathetic nervous system
    12. pulse rate:
    13. blood pressure:
    14. systolic pressure:
    15. diastolic pressure:
  2. Relate how the terms above (b – k) will impact cardiac output (CO).
  3. How are pulse rate and blood pressure related?
  4. Perform the following experiment on yourself or family member.
    1. Take your baseline pulse rate using the radial pulse technique- this should be done sitting down without talking.
    2. Exercise (run, do jumping jacks, run stairs, etc.- anything that will get your heart rate up!!) for five minutes. After five minutes, take your pulse rate right away.
    3. Stand still for three minutes and take your pulse rate after that time.

  1. Explain the physiology behind these results and relate them back to your exercise hypotheses from the Lab 6 Prelab. Use terms from question 1.
  2. Perform the following experiment on yourself or family member.
    1. Take your baseline pulse rate using the radial pulse technique- this should be done sitting down without talking.
    2. Lay down for five minutes; after five minutes, take pulse rate while laying down.
    3. Stand up, and instantly take your pulse rate.
    4. Stand still for three minutes and take your pulse rate after that time.

  1. Explain the physiology behind these results and relate them back to your postural changes hypotheses from Lab 6 Prelab. Use terms from question 1.
  2. Define the new adult blood pressure guidelines for 2020, including the category titles and numerical values of systolic and diastolic pressures for each respective category. Include levels of hypertension and hypotension.
  3. List 6 factors that affect blood pressure.
  4. Based off the research done for this assignment, what effect does stress play on pulse rate and blood pressure? Explain using terms from question 1.
