Part 1 You will be expected to describe what physical activity and sedentary behaviour are and to describe current engagement levels are within the UK. You will also be expected to describe the impact of physical activity and sedentary behaviour on aspects of health (for example physical and mental health) and to describe the factors/issues that influence individuals’ engagement in these behaviours.

You should then explain how the initiative could: • Improve the physical activity levels and/or reduce the sedentary behaviour of your individual • Address some of the barriers to physical activity engagement your individual has • Improve the physical and mental health outcomes of your individual

 

You should ensure that you are able to support your choice of initiative and the potential benefits it will provide your individual with references to relevant literature. For example, if you describe your initiative will be asking your individual to run up and down stairs each day, you would need to reference existing studies that have shown this intervention is effective at increasing physical activity, and that it can improve aspects of health. 

 

References Throughout your essay you should include relevant references to demonstrate the reading you have completed to develop your knowledge and understanding, and to justify the initiative you create in Part 2 of the essay. 

 

Word Count The word count is 2,000 with a ±10% leeway. It is anticipated Part 1 will require around 750 words, and Part 2 around 1,250 words. Please note, these are for guidance only and the only word count that will be checked is your total word count.
