Gratitude Letter
Instructions
This week, we talk about dealing with the problem manager. However, I would like us to use this week as an opportunity to express another form of communication: expressing gratitude.
Research has shown that showing appreciation/gratitude improves our well-being. Along those lines, here is your assessment for the week: Gratitude Letter / Visit Exercise Think of someone who has contributed to your well-being, whom you’ve never fully thanked. Write a letter to that person describing the benefits you have received from them. Be detailed.
Describe how the actions made you feel. Then, take this letter and read it out loud to that person. If possible, do this in person. Take enough time to be together to have an authentic exchange. (If it isn’t possible to do this, write the letter, send it to them, or share it with someone else). After you have accomplished this, please write a 500 word (minimum) reflection regarding your experience. How did it go? (you could discuss the writing, the experience of sharing… anything). How did you feel? How did the other person feel? There is no need to send me your letter… that is between you and the person you wrote it to. I just want you to write about the experience as a reflection.
