Applications of Sport and Exercise Psychology

Applications of Sport and Exercise Psychology

Using one of the case studies provided (Imagery, self-talk, relaxation) or another case study of your choosing (if so, please then provide the background information and supporting documents in appendices). You are required to produce an intervention plan for the athlete(s). The plan should include the psychological skills training that you would recommend and how you would introduce / implement this as well as the rationale for the planned delivery.
This part of the assessment corresponds to Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, and 4 and you should consult these to help meet your criteria.
A rubric is a set of criteria for grading assignment. Your assignment will be marked in line with the following rubric by the first and second marker, as well as the external examiner.
Marking Break Down
Overview
For this assignment you are to write up in full one of the case studies presented in the module or another of your choosing. Structure the case study using the sub-headings below:
Background information
Present the characteristics of the client (approx 100 words). These have already been outlined to you and therefore while they should be included for clarity (to make it easier to follow the intervention) this section does not contribute to the word count.
Problem Identification (25%)
You should discuss the problem / issue presented. Refer to theory and empirical research to outline why the issue(s) presented is of importance to sport / exercise performance and / or participation. You should consider priorities in when going through this process. (approx 600 words).
Intervention Justification (30%)
Describe and provide a rationale for your chosen intervention. You must refer to theory and empirical evidence to justify your choice of intervention (approx 600 words).
Delivery of Intervention (30%)
Outline how the intervention would be delivered. For example Indicate the number of sessions required and where these would take place (it could be in more than location). Pay attention to the issues that are particularly important in delivering the intervention you have planned. For example, is adherence an issue for this type of intervention – if so how are you going to address this? What about the acquisition of the skills you propose? How will you transfer the skills you propose to competition? (approx 600 words).
Evaluation (15%)
Detail an expected outcome from the programme and how this is to be assessed. This evaluation must include assessment tools (what would you use to collect pre and post intervention data) and how you will go about analysing the data (e.g., qualitative or quantitative analysis). (approx 200 words).
