Evaluate Career and College Preparation in a School Counseling Program
Implementing and evaluating career and college counseling programs is part of the school counselor’s role. It is their responsibility to make sure the career and college programs and curriculum are appropriate for their students.
Allocate at least 3 hours in the field to support this field experience.
For this field experience, spend one hour completing each of the following: interview a school counselor about strengths and areas for development in their career and college development program, observe or discuss a career counseling session or activity, and review the clinical site supervisor’s career and college development curriculum.
Additionally, with your clinical site supervisor begin to plan for your assignment in Topic 8. This clinical field experience will require you to work with a small group of students for a presentation, so be sure to plan accordingly.
Spend any remaining field experience hours observing or assisting your clinical site supervisor.
In 250-500 words, summarize and reflect on your interview and observation. Include in your reflection:
A summary of the career and college counseling program and curriculum.
The strengths and areas for development that you discovered in the career and college development program.
What you observed or discussed during the career counseling session or activity.
How you will apply what you have learned to your future professional practice as a school counselor.
APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
