Strategic Human Resource Management (Case Study Eni)

Read the case study of Eni.

You are HR manager of Eni and are required to write a formal report to management to examine four main HR areas to ensure that HR practices have a positive impact on the organisation. These areas include:

  • The importance of Strategic Human Resource Management within Eni.
  • Human Resource Plans within Eni how they are developed and implemented.
  • Current policy both internally and externally that affects Eni.
  • The role of Human Resource Management within Eni.

The layout of the report:

An executive summary – this should give a summary of the areas within the report and include the main recommendations for management to move forward with managing people within the organisation.

An introduction – This should explain the importance of strategic human resource management (SHRM) in organisations. (Assessment criteria 1.1)

The main report will comprise of the following:

  1. An assessment of the purpose of SHRM activities in Eni and an evaluation of the contribution of SHRM to the achievement of Eni’s objectives. (Assessment criteria 1.2, 1.3)
  2. Analyse the business factors that underpin human resource (HR) planning in Eni and assess the HR requirements for young graduates. Develop a HR plan for young graduates and critically evaluate how the plan can contribute to meeting the organisation’s objectives. (Assessment criteria 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4)
  3. Explain the purpose of HR management policies in organisations and analyse the impact of regulatory requirements on HR policies in Eni. (Assessment criteria 3.1, 3.2)
  4. Analyse the impact of Eni’s organisational structure and organisational culture on the management of HR. Then examine how the effectiveness of HR management is monitored within Eni and make justified recommendations to improve the effectiveness of HR management in the organisation. (Assessment criteria 1.1, 1.2, 4.3, 4.4)

Conclusion – this will summarise the above report and highlight the main points of interest. References – to be to Harvard Standards.

Guidelines

  1. You should respond to each of the report tasks in turn and present your answers in a suitable way that could be included in the report. Please see the assessment criteria grid for ideas / suggestions of how your answers could be presented. Throughout your answers you should take care to explain, justify and evaluate your ideas and knowledge of how the theories and concepts

You should also underpin your analysis with relevant references to theory whilst at the same time

  1. You should use diagrams and tables of figures where appropriate ensuring to reference their source.
  2. You should include a reference list and a bibliography using the Harvard referencing system. You must ensure that the submitted assignment is all your own work and that all sources used are correctly attributed.
  3. It is advised that you write your sections of the report within 3000 words in order for your research and summarising skills to be developed, and for effective time management. You are required to ensure that the assignment addresses all of the assessment tasks.

The word count excludes the title page, reference list and appendices.  Where assessment questions have been reprinted from the assessment brief these will also be excluded from the word count.  ALL other printed words ARE included in the word count.   Printed words include those contained within charts and tables.
