The purpose of this assignment is to explore and apply the palliative care approach to the following case study. You will analyze different care contexts to deepen your understanding of palliative care nursing as part of person-centered, interprofessional care.

Case Study Description:
You are working with a palliative care team in the community. You have a referral from the Oncology team to meet with Auntie Margaret for the first time. Auntie Margaret is a 52-year-old Aboriginal woman, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, treated with a lumpectomy and chemotherapy, now secondaries have been found in the lungs. After consultation with the Oncology team, Margaret has decided not to proceed with any more chemotherapy (As she found this distressing last time) but has agreed to radiotherapy to reduce the size of the tumor in her lung and to increase her pain medications Targin 5/2.5 BD PO and PRN Endone 5mg Daily PO to 20mg maximin).
Margaret lives with her husband Sam 58 years old non-Indigenous man, in their own home. Their daughter Penny, 30 years, and son John, 28 years live with their partners in their own home. Penny has one son James, 5 years old. Auntie Margaret is the eldest in her family having 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Sam has one sister Maree. Auntie Margaret is passionate about being an active Aboriginal community member.

Answer the following questions related to the case study. Provide an introduction and conclusion.
Section 1: 1350 words
1. In consideration of the key principles of palliative care, explain why Margaret may opt for conservative care rather than chemotherapy.
2. Outline how you will establish and promote culturally safe practices?
3. Palliative care usually involves a multidisciplinary team, what services/professionals may be involved in Auntie Margaret’s care, and what support can they provide?
Section 2: 550 words
Auntie Margaret has now progressed and is finding it much more difficult to breathe. Antie Margaret has emphasized that she wants to die at home with support from her family.
1. Explain the palliative care focus specific to Margaret for her end-of-life care.
o Identify the resources required, who will be involved, and how the care team will coordinate care including medication.
