D.2.2: Discuss the importance of the following key elements of the psychiatric interview:
A) development of practitioner-client relationship;
B) therapeutic communication;
C) potential traps and pitfalls when eliciting the history from a mental health client;
D) significance of the environment;
E) considerations such as age, culture, genetics, health literacy level and spiritual beliefs; and
F) mental status examination
D.2.3: Describe the rationale for screening for general medical conditions as an important part
of the assessment. Find a journal article that discusses a clinical situation in which a medical
condition was related (cause or aggravation) to the psychiatric condition. Discuss the steps
taken to identify how the medical condition was implicated in alterations of mental health.
